Braun Silk-épil Xpressive 7781 Wet & Dry Epilator review

The past few weeks I have been religiously using the new Braun Silk-épil Xpressive Wet & Dry epilator in the quest for super-smooth legs this summer! It's the first premium epilator from Braun which can be used in water to provide the gentlest form of epilation yet and gives you smooth, soft skin for up to four weeks. I have used epilators loads in the past and hated having to epilate seperately from having a shower (what a waste of time!!) Plus it's pretty gross having to clear up the hairs afterwards!! So the best bit about this epilator is you can use it in the shower AND the warm water soothes and relaxes your body, so hairs are removed as gently and pain-free as possible!! You are also not left with bumpy-red legs like you get after waxing.

I am such a baby and HATE waxing as it hurts so much, so this epilator is the perfect solution as it doesn't hurt and I have hair-free legs for four weeks! I definately recommend trying this epilator - even if you are sceptical like me, as it' so much better than having to shave every day for smooth legs. Its fairly pricey at the moment (RRP £99.99) but if you add up the prices of waxing, then it's not too bad. What do you think - let me know if you have tried it out?

how can you use the epilator in the shower? wet hair would slide off of the tweezers that are trying to grasp and remove the hair?? The best comparison would be if you put vasaline on your fingers and tried to pull your finger off, it would slide and you would have no grip. I own an Emjoi epiltator and dry is the way to go beside if you had to clean up hair after epilator you let it get too long before you started using it.

You don't need to shave your legs...wow that's impressive I am jealous!! xxx

Yup... I'm Asian and don't have much hair to speak of =D though when I was younger I thought my legs were awfully hairy and wanted to shave because all my friends were doing it. But I really don't need to. Besides they used the disposable razors and they got cuts. Scary!

I love this product! I'm using it for a couple of months now and i'm not dissapointed. It's allmost pain-free, you're skin gets used to it. And the hairs stay away for a long time. You have to use it for a couple of weeks before the hairs stay away for a long time, but that's beacause of your hair-grow-cycle. I used everything in the past to get smooth legs and pits but nothing seemed to work. I have thick hair!
Buy it girls! I'm hooked!
Sorry for my bad englisch writing!

Have always found epilators good however they cause many ingrowing hairs - I have tried all the usual recommendations ie. exfoliation and tea tree but to no avail

I bought one of these a week ago and have so far epilated my arms, legs, underarms, face and bikini line. I've always been a fan of waxing, so the sensation wasn't totally alien to me, but it definitely smarts in certain places.

I used it dry on my arms and legs, have v.fair/fine hair on my arms, but wanted them hairfree for summer. The hair on my legs is darker, but some fair/fine hairs too and it dealt with both very quickly and effectively.

Underarms I also did dry and again, wasn't too bad, but that may be because I've waxed my underarms for years now.

I used the facial attachment for lip/chin and that definitely did sting in places, but v.effective nonetheless.

Bikini line...ouch! Again, I've been waxing for years (Brazilian) and was a bit wary of using the epilator there. I started using it dry and some parts were ok, more sensitive in others and I winced; a little easier in the bath, but difficult to see what you're doing underwater, so be careful! I have tackled my bikini line in stages, just because it's quite torturous, but the effects were amazing and definitely more effective than waxing.

I couldn't recommend this enough, I bought it through the Boots offer (runs to end of July '09), so it was £66, but a very worthwhile £66 in my opinion and will pay for itself when I don't have to buy any more wax/razors. Definitely make sure you exfoliate every day to reduce the chance of ingrown hairs and I think if you also use the epilator regularly, you'll only have regrowth to deal with once you've used it initially, as it picks up very short hairs. Hair grows in cycles, so using every couple of days should keep you on top of things.

I wish I'd bought one of these ages ago, it's an amazing product and lives up to the hype. Go get it girls! :)

I bought this actually after a friend of mine let me try hers out. It worked really well the first two times I used it (though the very first time I did it dry and I had red bumps on my legs that went away after 2 days). I'm usually one of those girls who get their full body waxed (and I mean almost everything). The epilator now, however, isn't as effective for me as it used to be. I think it actually has to do with the fact that the hair on my legs, for example, is growing back thinly (thanks to the device, which is good) and so the epilator hasn't been really pulling it out so well. So I've decided to shave a little so the hair grows back a little "coarser" so to speak. I agree with "hair remover" that the epilator is definitely more effective when dry than wet, unless you're doing your bikini line and your underarms (hurts less in the shower). So for me, it's worth it b/c it's cheaper than my usual waxing/shaving combo (not to mention it comes with a free trimmer attachment). And it's definitely done wonders for my underarms.

How many hairs break while using this epilator in wet compared to using it in dry?
Please and thank you~

Great review Beauty Addict, I have just bought one of these!

hair remover- Who cares about your stupid comparison, which happens to be totally incorrect as our fingers are not made of metal tweezers! What a douche. This product is being sold as a WET & dry epilator, so it is going to work!

hi girls!! i've just read this excellent review!! i shave my legs every 2 days... do u think that with this epilator my legs will be fine for 2-3 weeks? this is my first time of using an epilator...do u think it will hurt??

Vix said...

Hey, I recently brought the epilator but it really hurts! is there a way to lessen the pain? xx

It will hurt the first time you use it but it does get easier. I have just upgraded my old style silk epil to this xpressive model and it really does make a difference. I now do my legs in less then half the time i used to, I love the light on it, although i think it makes me a little obsessive scouring my legs for any I may have missed.
I must admit i haven't ventured to my bikini line yet as I'm to much of a wuss, I will have to build up to it over the next few days. The advice I have had is to get it waxed first and then deal with the minimal hair that grows back from the waxing instead of trying it out on a a shaved area.
For me this is one of the best purchases of the year so far, but for all you newbees to epilation please make sure you give it a few goes before dashing across the room, it really does make such a differance not having to shave your legs everyday.
Hope this helps,
Kitty x

I absolutely love, love, love my wet/dry silk epil! I usually use it wet because the results are so amazing. The first time I used it I was astounded. I'd had the previous (dry) model silk epil and I was always having to use a 'Silky Mit' afterwards to have baby smooth skin because there almost always were a few prickly bits that were a tiny bit too short. They weren't noticeable except by touch, but they bugged me. With the wet/dry one - I never have pricklies!

This is all great and stuff but how long does it take you all to epilate, I couldn't use it in the shower because I would be in there so long the water would be running cold by the time I finished, it takes ages to epilate properly!? I think it would just be useful to use straight after I'm out of the shower I spose.

I love the silk epil too! I've been using it religiously for about 8 months now every 3 days or so. I always use mine dry as I feel it lifts hair better. I do have a question though, how do you find the battery life? I found that I did 1/2 legs today which took 20 mins (for both legs) and I got the red flashing light indicating the battery was low. I've not been able to do both full legs at once and I can just about manage a brazilian before I run out of battery.... Anyone else find the battery life not great?

nida ben said...

The battery life is not great at all, i have the same problem since i begin to use Braun Silk-épil Xpressive 7781
But i can say that i m happy with it, cause i use it in each parts, and with time it not hirts at all.

excuse my bad english

i'm thinking of buying my first epilator. i'm over shaving everywhere and waxing strips suck and ive found tweezering is good its not painful when i do it slow and i pull it out in the direction of the hair grown even down there it doesn't hurt, but it just takes a long time. so i'm deffinately looking foward to getting an epilator i don't care if it hurts i have a high pain threshold.:)

I had a Silk epil which was great but recently 'graduated' to a Philips Lumea, more expensive but fabulous at removing unwanted hair, no more trips to the salon for long lasting silky smooth skin. I've included a link to the product, seriously check this out.

Shaving using the straight razors or double edge razors means giving myself the closest shave possible. Plus, it is also giving myself time to unwind. I could say that most of the time, I get my wonderful ideas while shaving. Thanks for sharing!

Oh my god, I have one of these and it is SO painful! I find it far more painful than waxing to be honest, I'd rather have a wax anyday. For me, the epilator was a total waste of money cause I can hardly ever bear to use it!

I bought this one yesterday, and already had a good shave with it. It feels smooth!

Very excited reading all the positive reviews.. I have always been wary of epilators and instead have been waxing for years, as I can take the pain of someone else doing it quickly and (relatively) painlessly.
However, I'm sick of continuously paying €15 every 3 weeks for underarm waxing.. I'm gonna make the investment. :) Thank you all for helping me decide!

Girls,I have to say that this epilator is just GREAT!

Epilator Braun Silk-Epil 7681 Xpressive Wet & Dry reduces pain due to hair removal in the water (now I am able to perform hair removal not only for the legs but for all other parts of the body), it is safe to use even in a filled bathtub. Epilator Braun Silk-Epil 7681 Xpressive Wet & Dry has a few tips: shaving (it may be used as an electric shaver) with trimmer for sensitive areas, wet and dry epilation. Also wipes for cleaning the skin prior to epilation are included!
Bits and epilator head can be easily removed with a washing brush, which is included. Also Epilator Braun Silk-Epil 7681 Xpressive Wet & Dry has a battery charge indicator: when it shows green light, the battery charge is sufficient, and when the light become red - you need to charge your battery. The advertisement stated that a full battery charge lasts for 40 minutes of hair removal. I do not use the epilator for a long time - a maximum of 10 minutes, so I use a battery for4-5 hair removal. Epilator Braun Silk-Epil 7681 Xpressive Wet & Dry really helps to significantly reduce the pain of hair removal, even Sensitive areas.
So i advice it to everybody!

I cannot use this gadget at all. since I bought I couldnt finish not even one shave without having get my skin pinched. the pain is awful!! and after the battery just goes flat. and then every and each time I have to put it on charger. so problematic and painful. I would like to get my money back because my expectations were not fulfilled in any aspects and tje epilator is just useless..
